And that includes your work space. Is your office cluttered with papers and other items? I recently took a step back and evaluated my work space and it wasn’t quite working for me. I knew I had to do something to help with the clutter and make some more space for the things I wanted. After all, your space should be a reflection of your personality and what you love to do. So, I decided to make a small how to blog on re-decorating a space. Enjoy!
I started off with taking a before pic so you can see how things looked prior to me changing things up. I knew that I wanted to have some more shelving for storage but the computer was in the way. The overall area was just small and a bit cramped.
Here is the new office
As you can see, I added some shelving on the walls so I could display my things. I also changed the orientation of the book shelf so we could add some more room. The little table on the end was added as well to add a little more room to the workspace.
With the smaller table on the end I now have a more open area.
I have an extra little table to display my closet monster and my rotary phone. The closet monster is a really cool idea. I found her at a flea market and she is made from old sweaters. It is said that she keeps away the bad monsters so I keep her in my office:) I’m always on the lookout for odd and unusual things to put in here. It really adds some fun!
These are probably my favorite part of the whole remodel and the main reason I wanted to get some shelves. These were done by my 5 year old daughter. She brings home art from school all the time and I wanted a place to display them. I bought some inexpensive frames and put her art in them. I love that I can have some really unique art to put in my office!
Me being the artist that I am, I have a ton of art supplies and had nowhere to put them. I got these planters(yes, these are for plants lol) that I thought would double as a great way to display my supplies. I’m always thinking outside of the box and trying to find new uses for things. These planters were absolutely beautiful and were the perfect size for what I needed them for.
And finally, my piggy bank collection. Seeing as we are a military family and have been just about everywhere, I wanted a way to remember each place we had visited, so I started collecting piggy banks. These were in the kitchen but I knew I wanted them in my office. Now that the book case was vertical I was able to open up another spot for more display items.
So, with the addition of a new table and some shelves, I gave my workspace a whole new look with lots of storage solutions. Pretty much every single piece is from Ikea and if you have one close by I would highly recommend going there(Or visit them online). The tables are super inexpensive and getting one of these bookshelves will give you a ton of room. You can customize them a lot of different ways such as purchasing the wicker drawers or even putting some doors on them.
It’s a new year so why not get organized? Add a little bit of flair to your space to really brighten it up and have some fun with it!
Until next time,
